Acidity (Peptic Ulcer)

Peptic ulcers are open sores that develop on the inside lining of your stomach and the upper portion of your small intestine.

The most common symptom of a peptic ulcer is stomach pain or burning in the pit of the stomach.

Peptic ulcers include:

  • Gastric ulcers that occur on the inside of the stomach

  • Duodenal ulcers that occur on the inside of the upper portion of your small intestine (duodenum)

  • The most common causes of peptic ulcers are infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and long-term use of pain killers - nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Aspirin / Dispirin,  Ibuprofen, Voveran (Diclofenac alone or in combination with Paracetamol) and Naproxen . Stress and spicy foods do not cause peptic ulcers. However, they can make your symptoms worse.

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is a condition where excess fat builds up in the liver of people who drink little to no alcohol. It is one of the most common liver diseases worldwide, especially in Western countries, and affects nearly one in four adults in the United States.

What is liver cancer?

Cancer is a disease that happens when abnormal cells grow too quickly and leave less space for normal cells.

Liver cancer can be classified in two ways. Primary liver cancer is one that starts in the tissue of the liver. The most common type of primary liver cancer is called hepatocellular carcinoma. The number of cases of primary liver cancer in the United States has been increasing over the years.

Secondary liver cancer is cancer that started in some other place in the body and moved to the liver. This type is also called metastatic liver cancer.

Liver Cirrhosis

Cirrhosis is a late stage of scarring (fibrosis) of the liver caused by many forms of liver diseases and conditions, such as hepatitis and chronic alcoholism.

When to see a doctor

Once you have any of the signs or symptoms listed below

  • Fatigue

  • Loss of appetite

  • Swelling over feet

  • Yellow discoloration in the skin and eyes (jaundice)

  • Fluid accumulation in your abdomen

  • Vomiting of blood or black tarry foul smelling stools

  • Confusion, drowsiness and coma

Constipation

Constipation most commonly occurs when the waste (stool) that forms after food is digested moves too slowly as it passes through the digestive tract. Dehydration, changes in diet and activity, and certain drugs are frequently to blame to slow transit of stool. When stool moves slowly, too much water is absorbed from the stool, and it becomes hard and dry.

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Esophageal varices are enlarged veins that develop in the esophagus when normal blood flow to the liver becomes obstructed, often due to scarring from liver cirrhosis. To bypass the blockage, blood is diverted through smaller veins that are not equipped to handle high pressure or large volumes of blood. As a result, these veins can rupture or leak, leading to severe and potentially life-threatening bleeding.
Common symptoms include vomiting large amounts of blood, black or tarry stools, lightheadedness, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness. Doctors may suspect esophageal varices in individuals showing signs of liver disease such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), easy bruising or bleeding, and abdominal fluid accumulation (ascites).
